Caliper Foods (www.caliperfoods.life), formerly Stillwater, is a consumer packaged goods company that offers safe and standardized hemp-derived soluble cannabinoids to both consumers and manufacturers alike.
Caliper Foods encompasses two distinct business lines: (1) Caliper Commercial Ingredients, which delivers superior, application-specific cannabinoid solutions at scale for innovative, quality-focused CPG companies; and (2) Caliper Consumer, which sells its own line of CBD-infused products nationwide.
Caliper Foods was founded in 2015 on the belief that cannabinoids, especially non-psychoactive compounds like CBD, will soon become a major new category in functional ingredients.
About the Job
We’ve got the technology, an amazing team of food scientists and CPG veterans, and a set of forward-thinking customers. What we need now is someone to help us strategically grow the business to take advantage of the massive market opportunity we are presented with.
We foresee a day when CBD and other cannabinoids are mentioned in the same breath as probiotics, protein, and omega-3s in the lexicon of functional ingredients. We’re looking for someone who shares that vision and knows how to get there from here. This job is perfect for a business generalist with food or supplement industry experience and an entrepreneurial streak.
Do you love developing a coherent strategy and getting your hands dirty executing it? Do you take pride in building and implementing airtight processes that scale efficiently and maximize return on effort while minimizing avoidable mistakes? Do you enjoy the challenge of thinking through the sales process across multiple channels, making sure that you’re delivering the right product for a customer’s needs, and then building a support structure to ensure perpetual happiness going forward? Your initial responsibilities include:
Define new products tailored to emerging market opportunities and coordinate with R&D to develop and commercialize them.
Improve our sales and support processes to help us find the right customers, identify their needs, and support them in achieving their goals; then expand the team to execute on what you’ve built.
Work with our production and development teams to ensure customer orders are manufactured on time and to spec.
Develop and execute strategies for marketing our products to a broad set of B2B customers across multiple channels, including web, print, and trade shows.
This position requires a rare mix of strategic acumen, business sense, deep respect for the manufacturing process, and the ability to define, recruit, and manage a variety of business roles. It’s best suited to an organized go-getter who doesn’t mind phone calls, sales calls, and getting their hands dirty. You will have all the support you need, but this business line will be yours. We will ultimately judge you on the quality of the machine you build, not this month’s bottom line. We recognize that certain things are outside of your control — e.g., regulations and customer purchase cycles — so we will judge you on what is within your control, specifically, the systems and processes you build. The successful candidate will be likable, thoughtful, and convincing without being pushy. Management experience across a variety of areas within food and beverage, with extra credit to work in B2B ingredient sales or marketing.
Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends when necessary. That said, we consider fire drills to be better evidence of bad process than good effort.
Ability to multi-task within a rapidly evolving industry.
5+ of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
